Mikhail Baryshnikov, then artistic director, commissioned Sinatra Suite for American Ballet Theatre. The piece contains four duets from Nine Sinatra Songs danced by a single couple. Tharp reworked “One For My Baby" into a solo for Baryshnikov. The closing ballad is a character study of the solitary man. Bowtie undone, he meanders through an interior investigation of his own identity. The role demands a strong actor to carry the character driven choreography of the final section.
