Pergolesi is a distillation of the second act from Cutting Up. Originally a duet for Tharp and Mikhail Baryshnikov, the solo version shows off his subtle charm and easy virtuosity. The choreography references a number of roles from Baryshnikov’s classical repertory, including Le Corsaire, L’après-midi d'un faune, Le Spectre de la Rose and Swan Lake. These allusions are punctuated with Tharp’s signature style of quick footwork and dynamic shifts in weight and direction.
