BEETHOVEN OPUS 130 is an octet set to Movements II and IV from Beethoven's late string quartet "Opus 130" including the "Grosse Fuge”. Beethoven had used fugal techniques throughout his career, advancing the form along the way. He wrote, “In my student days I made dozens of fugues…but imagination also wishes to exert its privileges…and a new and really poetic element must be introduced into the traditional form.” Tharp, with reference to her seminal 1970 work The Fugue, also thought of the fugue form in more dramatic terms for this work.
Composer: Ludwig van Beethoven
Movement I - Presto (Movement II from Opus 130)
Movement II- Alla danza tedesca: allegro assai (Movement IV from Opus 130)
Movement III - Grosse Fuge, Op. 133
