Twyla Tharp currently offers two teaching programs:

-THE ONE HUNDREDS:1-50 Teaching Program:
THE ONE HUNDREDS:1-50 is based on a dance Twyla Tharp originally choreographed in 1970 titled “THE ONE HUNDREDS”. The piece was created to address three questions she faced as a performing dancer.

1. How accurate is my memory?
2. How good is my coordination?
3. How strong is my sense of beginnings, middles and endings?

The teaching and performance program, THE ONE HUNDREDS: 1-50 has been developed for students to address the same three questions.

Presented on a DVD the program is a self-contained teaching tool that includes footage of the material being performed and demonstrated from a number of points of view. The program does not require a ballet master.

-THE TORELLI Teaching Program:
THE TORELLI Teaching Program is based on a dance Twyla Tharp originally choreographed in 1971 titled “TORELLI”. The piece was created based on two fundamental ideas/questions she faced as a performing choreographer:

1. Am I making a connection with the audience?
2. How well can I improvise during performance situations?

TORELLI, the dance piece, is built around eight phrases that involve both classical and contemporary movement qualities, providing a broad dance experience for students. Participants start by learning choreographer Twyla Tharp’s dance piece, TORELLI, and continue on to create their own original choreography inspired by the eight learned phrases.

The TORELLI Teaching Program is presented on a DVD, and an audio CD. The video DVD has two sections; a teaching area and a performance area. In the teaching area, each phrase is presented repeatedly from a number of points of view as well as different types of instruction, i.e., demonstrated, narrated and counted, allowing a number of ways to see and understand the material. The performance area provides reference to the premier performance by Twyla Tharp Dance as well as a student performance. The program does not require a ballet master.
