Tharp?s first major video work was called ?Making Television Dance? and in this piece she comes close to making the camera choreograph. And what does it choreograph? A dance that spans the imagery of savage chaos from primitive to punk, a dance that reduces anything human to puniness in comparison with the vivid, hungry screen...In the end we and the dancers too, seem frailer than ever, and the dance rightly spectacular.
